My Dad and Me

My name is Andrew and about a month ago my mom requested a new desk because my mom's old desk was to small, which is where I'm typing this up right now, so my dad had the idea of making a desk. This is what got me into woodwork. At first I watched my dad and saw what he was doing and how he was doing it. Then I wanted to help so I started gluing and clamping. What I mean is we put individual layers in a curve like ~. The only problem was that the curve got too sharp unlike my dads theory was that the curve would grow to less of an angle. We were wrong and the curve actually grew bigger and sharper. Then the layers we put on were ether too wide and wouldn’t bend enough or to thin and snapped to easily. After a lot of thought my dad made a steaming invention. How this would work is there was a long tube with the wood in it that was connected to my mom’s kettle through a garden hose! The kettle would be over a stove with water in it. The steam traveled through and out the tube. Making the wood moister it could bend more and bend easier. We finished the desk But my mom says,” It looks to beautiful for her to just dump her stuff all over it.” But after my dad and me finished the desk after about a week of working it looks amazing.
